Hello All,
I am still trying to establish a list of bone by species that was most frequently used for the handles of edged weapons (1600-1900). I have learned that collagen testing and histological methods are available which can determine the genus, but so far, records do provide the information I seek.
Consequently, I would appreciate hearing from those who would provide me with their informed "guess" as to the three most likely animals whose bone was used for that purpose in Europe. I am hoping that I will receive at least ten responses. I will tally the results and report back.
Even though this is far from using a scientific method, I hope I can still count on your participation.
I am starting the list with cattle, horse, hog. (Duplicates will count)
I look forward to your cooperation,
Many thanks,
Joel Jacobs
