> The session has four presenters who will discuss some new and innovative approaches in France, Italy, Spain, and the United States, on how to design and promote reading & literacy programmes to incarcerated persons, including how to indentify and meet the needs of this population group and make library services a key component in the prisoner’s successful return to the community.
> The papers and speakers are the following:
> Les bibliothèques des établissements pénitentiaires en France: l’exemple de la région Rhône-Alpes
> ODILE CRAMARD (Agence Rhône-Alpes pour le livre et la documentation (ARALD), Lyon, France)
> Les bibliothèques communales en prison à Rome
> Translations: [Italiano]
> FABIO DE GROSSI (Biblioteche di Roma, Rome, Italy)
> Los programas de promoción de la lectura en centros penitenciarios en España
> MARGARITA PÉREZ PULIDO (University of Extremadura, Faculty of Library & Information Science, Badajoz, Spain)
> Breaking barriers with books: connecting incarcerated fathers with their children
> VIBEKE LEHMANN (Library and Education Technology Consultant, Madison, USA)
> The Section for Library Services to People with Special Needs Section is concerned with library and information services to all those groups within the community who for whatever reason are unable to make use of conventional library services. These groups include people in hospitals and prisons, the elderly in nursing homes and care facilities, the house-bound, the deaf and the physically and developmentally disabled.
> This Section provides an international forum for the discussion of ideas, sharing of experiences and development of projects designed to promote and improve the effectiveness of library and information services to such groups, and the promotion of national and international cooperation at all levels.
> We hope to see many of you there.
