"GENDER EQUALITY AND FAMILY POLICY IN 20TH CENTURY NORWAY"

A public lecture by

                     Gro Hagemann

Professor, Department of Archaeology, History, and Conservation, University of Oslo

Like the other Scandinavian countries, Norway has an international reputation for being in the front in implementing a policy of gender equality. In present time the combination of high female employment and high birth rate are met with particular interest. This lecture will be discussing some of the premises of the success, but also be dealing with some of the more seamy sides of the matter. What kinds of visions and expectations have been underlying the Norwegian path toward gender equality? In which way has the balance between rights and utility been handled during the political process? What is the prise to be paid for the ambition of constantly more complete gender equality?

March 16, 2011, 5.30 pm, Popper Room

The event is also a launch of the Hungarian edition of a collection of articles on Norwegian gender politics:

A norvég modell. A társadalmi nemek esélyegyenlősége és egyenjogúsága. Ed.: Gro Hagemann, Balassi Kiadó, Budapest, 2011, Feminizmus és Történelem sorozat.

The book will be introduced by

Siri Ellen Sletner, Ambassador of Norway

Followed by a reception
