Trauma: THE TESTIMONY OF HUNGARIAN WOMEN HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS IN EMIGRATION
This study is part of a
project to integrate into Holocaust discourses the voices of women survivors, which can provide
valuable insights both for Holocaust studies and gender studies. As a
theoretical frame for my study I review earlier feminist scholarship regarding
the need to pay attention to the specific Holocaust experiences of females,
arguments that involve primarily biological and sociological considerations. I
also consider another gender-related question, whether there can be claimed a
specifically female style of remembering and of testifying about these
experiences. The main focus of my study will be an introduction to “literaried”
testimonies of some twenty Hungarian emigrant women, written over a span of
over half a century.
