Center for Women's Studies
University of Cincinnati, USA
The Center for Women's Studies at the University of Cincinnati
(USA) invites applications for serving as the Mary Ellen Heintz
Distinguished Professor of Women's Studies on the basis of a
one-year contract, renewable for a second year, starting in Fall
2004.
We seek a mid-career (associate or advanced assistant professor
level) scholar to contribute to the research, teaching, and
outreach mission of the Center for Women's Studies through this
endowed position made possible by the Center's community support
organization, the Friends of Women's Studies, and named for one
of its past presidents and most generous contributors. The
position provides a special opportunity for a mid-career scholar
on leave or independent scholar to have this prestigious title
and to work in one of the oldest Women's Studies programs in the
country that has a long history of graduate education, research
and grant initiatives, and hosting renowned scholars and is soon
to gain department status. Interested senior scholars are also
welcome to apply on the understanding that the endowed salary is
a maximum of US$50,000 plus benefits.
A Ph.D. in Women's Studies or a related field, preferably with a
background in social science, legal, public policy,
area/comparative studies, race and ethnicity, and/or historical
research, substantial teaching experience, and a well-developed
research program and publication record are required. Field of
specialization is open, but candidates must be able to teach
advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in feminist theory
and methodologies from interdisciplinary critical race and/or
transnational perspectives and to offer new courses in their
field of specialty. Candidates must also be willing to provide
at least one presentation for Friends of Women's Studies and at
least one research colloquium for graduate students and faculty
per year. Teaching load on a quarter system is dependent on the
research program the candidate brings to or creates within the
position, and the Center will provide a small research fund.
Applicants are encouraged to visit our website at
http://www.artsci.uc.edu/womens_studies for more information on the
Center, its faculty, and programs. Applications must include a
cover letter outlining the applicant's interest in,
qualifications for, and potential contributions to this
position, cv (including a list of Women's Studies and/or related
courses taught), publication sample, sample syllabus, and
contact information for three references. Applications are due
by November 15, 2003 and should be sent to:
