!!!!!!CALL FOR PAPERS: GENDER AND TECHNOLOGY!!!!!
Third European Social Science History Conference
Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 12-15 April 2000
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
As network chairs for Gender and Technology, we are inviting you to
submit panel proposals for the next meeting of the European Social
Science History Conference which will be held from 12 to 15 April 2000
in Amsterdam. We want to explore the relationship between gender and
technology. This topic is of growing importance to historians of
technology and sociologists of science and technology.
We are looking for panel proposals that explore methodological and
theoretical cross fertilization between gender formation and
technological development. Themes might include but are not limited to
non-western and colonialism topics, relationship between
production-consumption and/or designers and users, distribution of
power through technology, the new media, etc.
The ESSHC aims at bringing together scholars interested in explaining
historical phenomena using the methods of the social sciences. The
conference welcomes papers and sessions on any topic and any
historical period. It is organised in a large number of networks which
cover a certain topic (e.g. gender and technology, criminal justice,
family, social inequality, economics). The conference fee will be Dfl.
300 (at present this is about US$ 150). Further information about the
European Social Science History Conference, as well as
pre-registration forms, can be obtained from the conference internet
site at http://www.iisg.nl/esshc
Please send us your proposals before April 29, 1999 so we may
co-ordinate the themes and pass them on in time to the conference
organizers. Proposals should be sent to: Raymond Hofman, Belle van
