Kedves Kollégák,

A kezdődő nyári uborkaszezonra hadd ajánljak néhány
hírt, olvasnivalót. Egy állományvédelemmel foglalkozó
OSZK-s kolléganőmtől tudtam meg a minap, hogy egy ideje
benne vagyunk az alábbi, 1994-ben létrejött európai projektben,
"European Commission on Preservation and Access (ECPA)"
   URL: http://www.knaw.nl/ecpa/

A projekt fő témája a megőrzés, védelem ezen belül
koncentráltan a digitalizáció. Kolléganőm az ECPA
hírek hasznosulásául továbbította (és a későbbiekben
fogja továbbitani) az alábbi levelet, amelynek legjobb
helyét a DIGILIST listát gondoltam.

Az egyik hírben fedeztem fel az alábbi amerikai
hírlevelet, amelyet szintén szives figyelmetekbe(ükbe?)
ajánlok:

RLG Diginews
http://www.ohio.rlg.org/preserv/diginews/

Remélem nem lesz ezáltal túl "zajos" a lista, ha igen,
visszafogom a híreket ;-)

Üdv

István

CALL FOR POSTERS

AMIA Annual Conference
Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) Conference
Hotel Vancouver, Vancouver, BC, CANADA
November 18-23, 2003
www.amianet.org

Have you been working on an interesting moving image-related project that
you are anxious to share with colleagues? Have you discovered an innovative
way to document the way your institution records its preservation process?
Have you been involved with a collaborative digital initiative to highlight
moving image material once unknown to the general public? Are you a student
who is engaged in research on archiving or preserving moving image
materials?

This is your chance to shine!

AMIA's annual conference will contain poster sessions highlighting
up-to-date research emphasizing the issues and concerns encountered within
the moving image archive profession. The broad scope of these sessions is to
encourage professionals, students, and researchers from all types of
institutions to share their findings in an informal setting that aims to
encourage discussion and follow-up. All participants must be in attendance
and prepared to give a ten-minute presentation.

The sessions will take place on Saturday, November 22 from 12:15-1:45. In
addition, posters only will be displayed (no presentations) during the
vendor exhibits Thursday and Friday, November 20-21.

For those wishing to participate, please send an abstract of approximately
250 words to the chair (e-mail submissions preferred):

Andrea Leigh
UCLA Film & Television Archive
1015 No. Cahuenga Blvd.
Hollywood, CA 90038
323-462-4921 x13
aleigh at ucla.edu

Deadline for submission of abstracts is Friday, September 26.

Submissions will be peer reviewed by a panel of three. Final acceptance of
posters will be acknowledged mid-October.

No additional media will be allowed, with the exception of laptop computers.

Guidelines for posters:

A poster session advertises your research. The aim is to communicate
efficiently and concisely your findings, allowing professional colleagues
and researchers an opportunity to study the information presented and to
discuss it with you one-on-one.
1. Posters should be mounted on 20 x 30 foam core or stiff poster board
(larger posters are permissible, but must be mounted to display on an
easel). There will be no poster materials provided onsite, so please
assemble your poster before coming to the session. Easels will be provided.
2. Emphasize visual elements (graphs, charts, tables, photos, etc.). The
poster should accentuate your prepared presentation, not take the place of it.
3. Give your poster a title, and include author (s), affiliation (s), and
abstract of its content. Divide the poster into sections as appropriate.
For example: Title, abstract, methodology, results or data, conclusion.
4. Lettering should be simple, bold, and easily legible from a distance of
approximately four feet. Avoid using too many different fonts. Keep the
point size between 16 and 48.
5. Feel free to bring handouts that provide a summary of your research or
project.
6. Bring along your business card to hand out to those interested in
following up on your research.

OpenURL Standard Trial Implementation Launched

Bethesda, Md., USA (June 18, 2003) - The National Information
Standards Organization (NISO) has released The OpenURL Framework for
Context-Sensitive Services standard (version 1.0) for a trial use
period ending November 1, 2003. The OpenURL standard allows a user
who has retrieved an information resource citation to obtain
immediate access to the most "appropriate" copy of the full resource
through the implementation of extended linking services. The
selection of the best source for the full resource is based on the
user's and the organization's preferences related to location, cost,
contractual or license agreements in place with information
suppliers, etc.-all done transparently to the user. The transparency
is accomplished by storing context sensitive metadata with the
"OpenURL" link from the source citation, and linking it to a
"resolver" server where the preference information and links to the
source material are stored.
The initial development of OpenURL was targeted at the electronic
delivery of scholarly journal articles. In version 1.0 of the
Standard the framework is generalized to enable communities beyond
the original audience of scholarly information users to adopt
extended linking services and to lower the entry barrier for new
implementers.
An impressive international group of trial users including data
providers constructing OpenURL metadata, providers of OpenURL
resolvers, and libraries providing end user services using OpenURL
resolution are testing the standard. The goal of the trial period is
to test the standard's framework using a variety of data sources and
resolver services to ensure that users can seamlessly receive and
process OpenURLs and to solicit feedback on the proposed standard.
Participating in the trial as data providers are:

CABI Publishing (U.K.)
Edinburgh University Data Library (U.K.)
Informatics India Ltd (India)
Grupo Stela (Brazil).
MIMAS, University of Manchester (U.K.)
MuseGlobal, Inc. (U.S.)
ProQuest Information and Learning (U.S.)
RLG-Eureka (U.S.)

  Participating resolver services include:
  ArXiv.org (U.S.)
Auto-Graphics, Inc. (U.S.)
Edinburgh University Data Library (U.K.)
Endeavor Information Systems (U.S.), Ex Libris USA, Inc. (U.S.)
Innovative Interfaces, Inc. (U.S.)
OhioLINK (U.S.)
Potiron Tecnologia para Bibliotecas (Brazil),
ProQuest Information and Learning (U.S.)
Sirsi Corporation (U.S.)
MuseGlobal, Inc. (U.S.)
Openly Informatics (U.S.)
RLG-Eureka (U.S.)
Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium).

Libraries providing end-user access include: UniversitT Libre de
Bruxelles Libraries (Belgium), RLG-Eureka (U.S.), and The Getty
Research Institute Library (U.S.).
The Standard has been issued in two parts and is available as a free
download at <http://library.caltech.edu/openurl/Public_Comments.htm>.
The activities of the OpenURL standards committee and its trial
implementers can be followed on the committee's website at
<http:// library.caltech.edu/openurl/default.htm> or by subscribing
to the committee's listserv by sending an email message to
majordomo at caltech.edu with "subscribe openurl" (without quotation
marks) in the body of the message.
The trial use period is being coordinated and managed by the
California Digital Library. To sign-on as a trial implementor
contact Karen Coyle (email: karen.coyle at ucop.edu).
