[Bonetools] Mystery object

Dear all,

I have a mystery piece of what seems to be an offcut from a long bone,
possibly manufacturing waste, but perculiarly appears to have been worked.

I am struggling to find any comparanda and wonder if anyone has come across
something similar?

It is an unstratified find from an evaluation trench in the *vicus* of the
Roman fort in Malton, North Yorkshire. Please see attached photographs.

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
