Hi,I also think it was part of a two-piece bone handle. The remains of the iron tang would also argue for this function. The circular perforation on the broader terminal would have been served as a suspension hole. There are certain depictions on funerary monuments from Roman age which illustrate the hanging of knives by these holes.

Good morning everyone!
A colleague who is excavating at a Roman site in northern Spain has sent me the picture attached of an artefact and they are wondering what it might be. Any thoughts? I apologise for the bad quality of the photo, but they sent it to me directly from the field. 
The object is around 7 cm long and is composed of two flat pieces, with bits of iron in the thiner end (the right one in the photo), like if it was studded in order to put something else there.
