Dear Ian, Looks to me like the animals you get on 8th-9th c MSS and
metalwork- Leslie Webster is expert on those. I think I can see a pair
of beasts with heads, oval eyes and lappets between pairs of feathered
feet- a pair of feet by suspension loop and another pair lower down. But
it also looks very plant like! Try it on Leslie. Date would fit ok, esp
as presumably discarded. Catherine
