[Bonetools] belgrade meeting

Hi all
As I see it we could use the Facebook site to direct attention to updates
on the website, but NOT to duplicate content, or to add competitive
content. I would not, for instance, want to have 'bone tool of the
month' on there, to use it to list new publications etc, or to draw queries
away from the mailing list. I simply thought it would be nice to have an
informal way to keep in touch for those of us who want it.
The idea comes out of what was a very successful meeting at Belgrade, which
I think got several of us excited about ongoing research, potential
collaborations, and what is an unusually collegial atmosphere for an
academic conference. We thought it would be nice to keep this momentum
going, and to prime us all for future conferences. I don't think it would
be fair or feasible to ask Hans Christian to use the website for this; the
WBRG is an amazing resource, and one that we would not want to change.
What we are suggesting is a very different animal. The alternative -
using the mailing list to dump reams of photographs, to continue
half-finished discussions, and to share memories and informal conversations
- seems equally inappropriate.
I don't suggest we have a long discussion about this on the mailing list -
that would defeat the point of this whole idea - but if anyone is either
strongly in favour or has any serious reservations about this, then please
contact me off-list. I can then get back to you all with a proposed plan
of action.
Thanks for your consideration.
Steve
