Dear François,

I hope the following will be useful. From Moore (1999) Cutlery for the
Table. pg. 276. Sheffield, The Hallamshire Press.

Tang: the part of a knife (or fork) blade to which the haft (handle) is
attached.

Knock-on or whittle tang; short pointed and tapering tang for
attaching blade to haft reaching approximately three-quarters to the end of
the haft.

Pin tang: narrow, non-tapering form of knock-on tang.

Through tang: tang running through entire length of haft and
normally capped where it protrudes.

Scale tang: flat type of tang pierced for rivets for attaching
scales.

Strip tang: flat type of tang inserted into the front half of
the haft.

I cannot find ‘fang’ used in this context. Please let me know if there is
anything more I can do to help.

All the best,

Sonia

Subject: [Bonetools] Inside bone handles...

Dear S. O'Connor, lieber Herr Küchelmann,

inside living bones is marrow / in lebenden Knochen ist Mark,

but in new life of handles / aber im neuen Leben der Griffen

fang, tang / Angel, Achsschenkel , Wellenhals ?

can you check the tiny list of p. 5 ?

können Sie die kleine Liste S. 5 probieren bzw. nachprüfen ?

and anybody others bring words of other languages ?

That would be usefull.

Your's.
