Dr. Ayalon,
Thank you very much, and please convey my thanks to Dr. Shamir as well; I very much appreciate the assistance. I am in the process of writing up everything I have found for the museum's records, and the 'belt divider/bead row spacer' categories are being included as the most likely option. I do think there may be some odd re-use occurring, but I have no real parallels to draw from to identify it, and all of the morphologically similar artefacts seem to be interpreted as such spacers. Even without knowing all possible (re)uses though, having one good, working hypothesis with realistic comparative examples is more than was present in the records before.
Thanks again,
Erik Farrell

Subject: [Bonetools] belt divider?
Dear Erik,
I sent the photo of your object and the drawing of the vertical loom to Dr. Orit Shamir, the textile expert of the Israel Antiquities Authority, and this is her answer:
1. She does not think it was used in the textile industry as in such objects the holes should be in a very straight line.
2. She knows of no evidence of tablet weaving in the Neolithic period; also in tablet- or card-weaving the work can be done with the cards only, no need of any other utensil.
3. The drawing of the vertical loom does not seem logical or correct to her.
So I think that belt divider is the best offer.
Etan
