Dear all,

I am studying the bone and ivory artefacts of a Roman villa found in the
south of France. Through the usual bone pins and beads, there is one object
for which I can't find any similar item. It is a small, almost rectangular
piece that is broken on the length along the central perforation, made by a
drill. The artefact may have had a square section originally. The only
external face entirely preserved shows parallel lines engraved in the
length sense. One of the short faces is concave, the other is shorter and
flat. The concave and the long perforation are red; nothing in the context
could explain the colouring.

Does anyone have any idea ?

Thank you very much in advance,
and wishing to all of you the best for the new year,

Bénédicte Khan
