Dear Marloes,
The restorator who tried to work with old antler trophies had many
problems. It is much more difficult to work on antler that has dried out
completely but, of course, nothing is impossiible only impractical. There
are plenty of examples of Avar containers and medieval powder horns with
rich decorations composed of the beam and truncated tine bases. But I
understand you want the entire antler. There are Mesolithic examples of
Alces alces from Denmark. The article is in the Crafting Bones volume (and
written by George Nash) and I am sure there are other examples. I would be
interested to hear.
