Dear Marloes,

we had 4 of these combs in the monastery "Paradiese" in Soest in
Westphalia, Germany.

They are made out of Walrus-Ivory and date to the 19th century.
However, they are not so well preserved as your specimen.

	They are published in:

	M. Doll: Speisereste, Sondermüll und Sägespuren -
Archäozoologische Untersuchungen an Funden aus der Hansestadt Soest.
In: W. Melzer (Hrsg.), Handel, Handwerk, Haustiere – Zur Geschichte
von Markt und Tiernutzung in Soest. Soester Beiträge zur
Archäologie. Band 7 (Soest 2007) 82 – 204. Page 195.

	Greetings,

	Monika

	     Dear all,

A question for our Portuguese and Spanish (Italian?) colleagues or to
anyone who has the answer. Do these double sided ivory combs occur in
southern Europe and in which period or contexts?

 Best wishes,

 Marloes
