Dear Marloes,

we had 4 of these combs in the monastery "Paradiese" in Soest in Westphalia, Germany.

They are made out of Walrus-Ivory and date to the 19th century. However, they are not so well preserved as your specimen.

They are published in:

Dear all,

A question for our Portuguese and Spanish (Italian?) colleagues or to anyone who has the answer. Do these double sided ivory combs occur in southern Europe and in which period or contexts?

Best wishes,

Marloes
