Dear collegues,
I found a beautifully carved Roman pocket knife
handle, coming from a Roman military fort from Dacia,
representing an Eros riding a dolphin. The motif of
the Eros riding a dolphin is a very popular motif from
the hellenistic period until the Roman era, and it can
be related to the cult of Venus. Unfortunately in the
Roman Dacia, these kind of carvings are very rare,
this can be considered also a unique piece. I didn`t
find any analogy for it until now. If anyone could
help me with analogies of bone from the Roman period I
would very appreciate.
Many thanks!
Lorant
