(Fwd) Degreasing of bones

You will find  some mentions in a non published work (Feustel 1973, Weimar
: technik der Steinzeit). It is about a preparation by steam of medieval
bone combs, interpreted to degrease, to whiten and to soften bones. There
is a mention of this work in Billamboz 1977 Gallia préhistoire (in french).
I personnaly wrote an article (Paléorient 2001, in french) about heat
treatment of neolithic bones tools. My examination leads to admit that heat
is applied to degrease bones.
