scanned formats

Dear Colleagues,
        I have just received an e-mail from my museum concerning
the best formats to send scanned pictures - illustrations. The best
would be  JPG butt tif and gif would also be fine. BMP is least desirable
because of size problems.
        I hope this is clear to all of you. Please don't feel inhibited
about sending manuscripts BEFORE the deadline so I can be working
on them continuously!!
