CALL FOR PAPERS:
"Theorizing Computer Games"
This panel will consider the radically underexamined field of computer
gaming, a giant entertainment industry projected to economically surpass
the film industry in the next few years. I invite papers that explore the
social, political, cultural or economic issues of computer games and
computer gaming. Papers might not only read a game or games as text, but
might also begin to theorize how the games and the phenomenon of gaming
perform cultural work. Possible topics might include:
Games and ideology critique
Violence in computer games
Computer games and sex
Games and moral critique
The Internet and gaming
On-line gaming and gaming communities
The history of computer games / the future of computer gaming
Games / film / literature / anime crossovers
Role playing games (RPG's)
Games and authorship
The gender of gaming
