Dear Colleagues,
I am forwarding this request for information to the list. Please respond
to Steve Ashby and not to the list since he doesn't seem to know about it.

Dear all,
I am working on artefacts of 'skeletal' materials (particularly antler and
bone). I wondered if anyone could help me to augment my list of articles on
the identification of raw materials in objects. Thus far I know of the
following work:
Halstead, 'Vertebrate Hard Tissues'.
Krzyskowska, O. 1990. 'Classical Handbook 3: Ivory and Related Materials',
London: Institute of Classical Studies Bulletin Supplement 59.
MacGregor, A. 1985. 'Antler, Bone, Ivory and Horn'.
Articles by S and T.P. O'Connor1987 in 'Archaeological Bone, Antler and
Ivory', London: UK Instutute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic
Works', Occasional Papers No. 5.
Penniman, T. K.' Pictures of Ivory and other Animal Teeth, Bone and Antler;
With a brief commentary on their use in identification. University of
Oxford: Pitt Rivers Museum, Occasional Paper on Technology Nº 5, [1952]
1984.
Smirnova, L., 2002. University of Bournemenouth Ph.D Thesis.
If anyone knows of anything else, no matter how obvious or tangental, I'd be
very pleased to hear from you. Work from outside of archaeology, and
foreign literature are of interest.
Thanks
Steve Ashby
Does anyone have anything to add. Exampels from foreign literature or
outside of archaeology would be welcome.
Thanks
Steve Ashby
