Subject: IFLA Green Library Award 2026 - Submission Deadline Extended
To: Antonia Mocatta <antonia.mocatta at sydney.edu.au<mailto:antonia.mocatta at sydney.edu.au>>
Dear ENSULIB Section Members
It is with pleasure that I am able to share the submission deadline for the 2026 IFLA Green Library Award has been extended to February 15th. This gives entrants just a little more time to prepare their submissions, and potentially allows those who were thinking about entering, but have not yet acted, to prepare a submission.
The IFLA Green Library Award, now in its 11th year, is administered by ENSULIB<https://www.ifla.org/units/environment-sustainability-and-libraries/>, the IFLA Section on Environment, Sustainability and Libraries and is sponsored by De Gruyter Brill Publishing<https://www.degruyter.com/> and Library Juice Academy<https://libraryjuiceacademy.com/>.
The objectives of the IFLA Green Library Award are:
* To reward a green library / green library project that best communicates a commitment to environmental sustainability;
* To create awareness of libraries’ social responsibility and leadership in environmental education;
* To support the worldwide green library movement, concerned with
* environmentally sustainable buildings;
* environmentally sustainable services, activities, programming, information resources, collections and projects;
* social sustainability initiatives in libraries;
* To promote the development of green library initiatives locally, regionally and worldwide;
* To encourage all types of libraries to actively present their green activities to an international audience.
Following the IFLA Strategy 2024-2029<https://repository.ifla.org/handle/20.500.14598/3497>, the Award will help in advancing the profession through illuminating the role of libraries and librarians in the advancement of sustainability standards and the promotion of specialized knowledge within professional practice.
The prize is awarded in two categories:
* Category 1: Best Green Library/Grand-Scale Project
* Category 2: Best Green Library Project
A special recognition may be given to a project that is delivered with minimal resources but has a significant impact.
Guidelines for preparing an Award submission and the application forms can be found here<https://www.ifla.org/news/ifla-green-library-award-2026-call-for-submissions/>.
Libraries of all kinds and sizes from all over the world are encouraged to apply.
We look forward to seeing a diverse range of submissions from our members.
Best Regards
Antonia
