For Paul Hartal the heart of poetry is the poetry of the heart. Yet in Postmodern Light the poet transcends the realm of love and passion. In this whimsical collection his poetic sensibility balances dreamy emotion and discerning intellect, creative vision and insightful thought. His work is serious and humorous, philosophical and surreal, formal and experimental. His topics include "apology to a dandelion", the moon that remembers the astronauts, visual illusions, war and suffering, love and hope. The poet also examines art and science, draws inspiration from the mystery of time and gravitation, and encounters Parmenides and Descartes. In his Introduction to the volume Hartal blends absorbing vignettes of his life with literary analysis. He rejects the abuses of Deconstruction and the Nihilism of Postmodernism.

The recipient of the Prix de Paris and numerous other awards in painting and poetry, Paul Hartal has exhibited his paintings in museums and galleries in New York, Paris, Tokyo, Budapest, Seoul and Montreal. In 1975 he published his Manifesto on Lyrical Conceptualism, a new element on the periodic table of art. His critically acclaimed books include A History of Architecture, Painted Melodies, The Brush and the Compass, The Kidnapping of the Painter Miro (novel), and Love Poems. Hartal is founder-director of the Centre for Art, science and Technology in Montreal. He is featured in Who's Who in American Art, Canadian Who's Who and other reference books.
