UNESCO's Digital Heritage Charter

Kedves Kollégák,

A Könyvfesztiválon tartott előadásomban említést tettem
egy budapesti találkozóról, amely egy UNESCO felhívásról
szólt. A tervezet a digitális örökség megőrzésére, annak
jelentőségére hívja fel világszerte a figyelmet. Március
közepén éppen Budapesten volt a tervezet regionális vitája,
amelyen számos hazai intézmény szakembere (pl. SULINET, IHM,
Neumann, Könyvtári Intézet, Nemzeti Múzeum) is jelen volt.

A tervezet lényege, hogy napjaink digitális öröksége
el fog veszni, egy digitális sötét kort emlegetnek,
ha nem teszünk mielőbb sürgős lépéseket a jelen csak
digitális formában létrejövő információs vagyonának
megmentésére. Az akció kezdeteiről a 3K 2001. augusztusi
számában már olvashattunk:

Nem tudom, a budapesti találkozón részt vevő
intézmények tervezik-e a tervezet magyarra fordítását
és terjesztését? Ha nem, akkor időnk-energiánk függvényében
igyekszünk mielőbb megtenni azt.

Mindenesetre a rendezvényről rövid hír jelent meg
az UNESCO portálján valamint egy másik a múlt héten,
április 28-án. Utóbbi hírben lehet olvasni, hogy
a portálon megnyílt egy online fórum a tervezetről,
amelynek szövege PDF formátumban le is tölthető.

Levelem végén megadtam ezen források URL címét is.
Amennyiben a levelezők "eltörik" a hosszú, dinamikus
címeket, egy szövegszerkesztőben célszerű egy sorba
rendezni és onnan bemásolni a böngésző címsorába.

Today starts in Budapest a two- day regional consultation meeting
17-18 March 2003) to discuss digital preservation challenges in
Central Europe in which, as in other regions, an increasingly
large share of information is produced in digital form that can
be accessed on computers only.

This enormous amount of digital information may well be lost unless
specific techniques and policies are developed to conserve it.
Therefore, UNESCO is presently examining these issues with a view
to defining a standard to guide governments' preservation efforts
in the digital age.

The Central European Expert Meeting on Digital Heritage that opens
today in Budapest is part of UNESCO's campaign for the
preservation of the world's digital heritage. It will discuss digital
preservation challenges in Central Europe, and prepare comments on
the two key documents-in-draft: a revised draft Charter on the Preservation
of the Digital Heritage being prepared by UNESCO, and the
UNESCO draft technical guidelines on the preservation of digital heritage.

The regional consultation meeting with 30 participants from Austria,
the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slavakia and Slovenia
includes representatives from Ministries, National Commissions
for UNESCO, national libraries and archives, museums, universities,
producers, preservers and users of digital heritage materials.
