DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general guidance of the Director, Knowledge Exchange and Capacity
Building Division, and in close collaboration with the other Branches of the
Division, the incumbent will manage the activities of the David Lubin
Memorial Library (DLML). In particular, the incumbent will:

Plan, develop and implement strategies and directions for the DLML in an
international context;
Deliver a complete range of library services and adopt innovative
user-focused solutions to meet the needs of FAO staff at Headquarters and in
decentralized offices;
Manage the DLML's staff, budget, and physical/digital collections;
Ensure management of the library collections for relevance, consistency,
quality, access and content preservation;
Promote the development of improved agricultural library services in
developing countries;
Coordinate and strengthen library networks and participate with partner
institutions to achieve common goals;
Provide guidance and technical support to Library related activities of FAO
programmes and projects;
Contribute the DLML's perspective to the development and implementation of a
corporate Information and Knowledge Management Strategy;
Perform other related duties as required

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:

Advanced University Degree in Library/Information Science, or in a subject of
relevance to FAO activities with a professional qualification in
library/information science
Ten years of relevant experience in library and information management, of
which at least five in a managerial role in a large library or information
centre
Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one
of the other two

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

Demonstrated ability to provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction
in library and information management functions
Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff in a multicultural
environment
Extent of knowledge of advanced library and information management/content
standards and technologies
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in information/ library services
Extent of experience in both library user services and technical processing
Knowledge of other official languages
Demonstrated ability to establish networks and partnerships with other
institutions
Quality of both oral and written communication skills

Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing
skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and
cultural backgrounds. 
* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established
in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of
appointments.

REMUNERATION

Level P-5 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for
post adjustment) from US$ 115,862 US$ 133,416 (without dependants) and from
US$ 124,717 to US$ 144,789 (with dependants)
