General Summary:

The business development manager will play a key role in the development of 
Europeana to a fully operational service. It is a very varied role, from developing 
the partner network and bringing content into Europeana to raising funds and 
exploring business opportunities.

Europeana.eu is a portal that brings together [UTF-8?]Europe’s distributed 
cultural heritage. Europeana.eu inspires ideas and understanding by sharing [UTF-8?]
Europe’s cultural and scientific heritage with the world online. Europeana.eu is a 
Thematic Network funded by the European Commission under the eContentplus programme 
<http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/activities/econtentplus/index_en.htm> , as 
part of the i2010 policy

 The European Commission's goal for Europeana is to make European information 
resources easier to use in an online environment. It will build on Europe's rich 
heritage, combining multicultural and multilingual environments with technological 
advances and new business models.

The EDL Foundation, founded in 2007, is a dynamic organization responsible for 
Europeana v1.0 and related projects. The EDL Foundation has an enthusiastic and 
international team, based at the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (Royal Library) of the 
Netherlands in The Hague. Information about the EDL Foundation can be found on:

Key Responsibilities:

*        Assist in development and implementation of Business Plan and up-dates of 
business plan, especially in the area of funding, revenue and partner network.

*        Develop and execute a fundraising plan ensuring the short and mid term 
funding of Europeana, including European Commission and Member State funding, but 
also private public partnerships, sponsorships, affiliate revenues and other revenue 
models.

*        Build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders, ensure stakeholders 
are informed of all Europeana activities. Be aware of policies and strategies of 
main stakeholders (EC and Member States) to feed back to Europeana.

*        Develop and execute the Europeana Partner Development Programme, increasing 
the number of participating cultural institutions, especially museums, archives and 
audio-visual archives. Visit cultural institutions and conferences to promote 
Europeana to potential partners.

*        Build and maintain the Europeana organisational structure ensuring buy in 
and support from all partners and stakeholders. Organise and prepare meetings, 
workshops and other events for the organisation.

*        Develop and oversee the Partner Content Delivery Plan to ensure an even 
representation of content on Europeana.

*        Analyse user logs, research and general cultural and online trends to 
inform decisions on content, functionality and business strategy.

*        Develop and execute a Policy Portfolio in areas like Intellectual Property 
Rights, Licensing, User Generated Content, re-use of content and re-distribution of 
content through other portals.

*        Work closely with Project Leaders and other Europeana projects to maximise 
synergies and ensure alignment of strategy and execution

Ad Hoc:

*        Travel when necessary

*        Attend project meetings

*        Assist with all other business development activities

Requirements:

*        New Media experience, ideally with a cultural content portal

*        Experience with analysis of user logs and other research

*        Fundraising or sales experience

*        Excellent numerical skills, excel wizard

*        Excellent writing and communication skills

*        Excellent command of the English language and preferably one other European 
language

*        Affinity with the cultural sector and online projects

*        Self starter

*        Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.

*        Team Player

Our Offer:

A 24 month contract based at the Koninklijke Bibliotheek in The Hague, the 
Netherlands.  According to the CAO [UTF-8?]– onderzoekinstellingen 
<http://www.wvoi.nl/default.asp?cid=92&pid=76>  the salary scale indicated for this 
job is 11, maximum of [UTF-8?]€4326 gross per month on the basis of a 40 hour 
week. In addition you will be entitled to 42 days holiday per year plus holiday pay 
and an annual bonus of 8.33%.
