Local History Week, North Yorkshire

Hungarian Library Association.

Hello everyone:

My best wishes to all our colleagues in Hungary from the UK LA Local
Studies Group.

In Yorkshire we have had a very successful Local History Week where nearly
every library in Yorkshire and Humberside put on displays and exhibitions,
organised talks and events on the theme of Victorian Yorkshire. This is the
very first time that our region has arranged a joint co-operative programme
across all our libraries, many museums and archives. My libraries had some
excellent displays, Family History Fairs, talks on Victorian clothing, the
census, genealogy on the internet and so on. We had good press coverage,
especially when the staff at several libraries dressed up in borrowed
Victorian dress!
