The Faculty of Social Sciences at Lund University, Lund, Sweden is pleased to announce a new international masters program in Gender Studies, offered in English and starting in autumn 2007. Like all Swedish university education, there is no tuition however masters students are responsible for their own costs of living.

This interdisciplinary social science master's programme aims to provide students with the core elements through which current feminist theories, in dialogue with established academic disciplines, have contributed to the understanding of broader social processes. The major objective of the programme is to improve the student’s ability to critically examine, evaluate and discuss the field’s most important theoretical perspectives and research results. With these skills students will be able to formulate and analyse interconnections between theory and practice concerning gender, class, ethnicity and sexuality.

Students will acquire a critical social science approach which prepares them for postgraduate studies as well as professional work in a variety of fields: health, organisational management, development, communication, social policy among others.
  Teaching Staff
The program is coordinated by the Centre for Gender Studies at Lund University and the staff includes lecturers and professors from the Faculty of Social Sciences. Programme structure
The programme comprises a total of 120 Swedish credits (2 years) divided into six courses of 15 credits each and a Master’s thesis of 30 credits.

The first semester begins with a profile course introducing the students to the main themes and issues of the programme. This is followed by a course in the theory of science for the social sciences, where students are stimulated to advance their academic thinking and deepen their understanding of how knowledge is produced and reproduced.

The second semester begins with another profile course directly related to the main theme of the programme. Through the profile course students further increase their understanding and knowledge of global development through a deeper comprehension of theories and current research.

This is followed, in the second half of the second semester, by a course in research methods, which provides the students with skills required for independent research.

The third semester consists of optional courses to be taken at Lund University or any other recognised university in Sweden or abroad. The courses are chosen after approval of the programme coordinator, and enable students to tailor the programme to suit their particular interests.
