Course description:
The course will give an introduction to current debates on
transnational feminism with a focus on theoretical, analytical and
political frameworks. How to grasp processes of transnationalization
and globalization from feminist perspectives? How to think, analyse
and act across geopolitical borders (national, regional, cultural),
while keeping up a politics of location? What are the problems and
the potentials? How can transnational feminist perspectives
transform research designs? How to balance between universalism and
particularism? Key texts by scholars such as Chandra Mohanty,
Inderpal Grewal and Caren Kaplan will be introduced and discussed.
Analytical examples will put focus on the ways in which feminist
ideas on bodies, subjectivities and sexualities travel and,
moreover, on approaches to regional
differences and similarites between the ways in which they are
enacted in Russia and the Nordic countries.

The course will include two kinds of sessions:
1) lecture-discussion-sessions,
2) group sessions with presentations of students' papers, where
students will be given the opportunity to present their doctoral
research and receive comments from teachers and co-participants.
