PhD Course: Transnational feminism and local perspectives: Theories, 
practices and analytical approaches
Organiser: The Nordic Research School in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies

Topics: The course will give an introduction to current debates on 
transnational feminism with a focus on theoretical, analytical and 
political frameworks. How to grasp processes of transnationalization and 
globalization from feminist perspectives? How to think, analyse and act 
across geopolitical borders (national, regional, cultural), while 
keeping up a politics of location? What are the problems and the 
potentials? How can transnational feminist perspectives transform 
research designs? How to balance between universalism and particularism? 
The course will include two kinds of sessions: 1) 
lecture-discussion-sessions, 2) group sessions with presentations of 
students' papers, where students will be given the opportunity to 
present their doctoral research and receive comments from teachers and 
co-participants.
