Region:Western Europe
Location:Germany
Description:
The Berliner Kolleg für Vergleichende Geschichte Europas (BKVGE; Berlin
School for Comparative European History), which was established on 1 July
2004, will grant 10 further fellowships for doctoral students from
European states. Seven fellowships will be provided by the Gemeinnützige
Hertie-Stiftung (Frankfurt am Main), while the Gerda Henkel Stiftung
(Düsseldorf) will support three more doctoral students. The fellowships
(1030 Euros per month) will be granted to successful candidates for 30
months, starting on 1 April 2006.
The doctoral programme of the BKVGE deals with 'The Europeanization of
Europe. Historical Comparison and Transfer.' Four fields of research
receive particular attention:
- the public sphere and citizenship
- migration and transfer
- the state and social self-organisation
- identities and images of Europe and Europeans in global perspective.
Proposals should be related to one of these fields. Comparative studies
and projects which deal with transfers and entanglements in European
history since the late eighteenth century are particularly welcome.
Applicants should have an excellent academic record with a major in
history, a good command of German, and at least one additional European
language. They will be required to live in Berlin and to participate in
the academic activities of the BKVGE. They should also be interested in
Germany as well as in issues of European integration. Moreover, they are
expected to be involved in some practical civic engagement.
Deadline: 10 December 2005.
Only applicants from East European states are kindly requested to
complete the form which is available on the internet site of the BKVGE
(www.fu-berlin.de/zvge, click Ausschreibungen). Please send your
applications with a curriculum vitae, a description of your project
proposal (8 10 pages), and assessments (transcripts with grades) to:
