The thematic workshop strand on technology and new social movements, digital citizenship (coordinated by Berteke Waaldijk and Andrea Peto) of the 6th European Gender Research Conference 31 August-3 September, 2006, is soliciting papers because new media and ict's have redefined the boundaries and forms of politics, culture, activism on a world wide scale. Feminists everywhere have experienced and shaped those changes: global and local identities mix in unprecedented ways. Social movements in diverse fields (e.g. democratization, feminism, alter-globalism, anti-racism and many others) daily invent new forms of acitvism. New technologies themselves are object of new political movements (e.g open source movements, hacktivism). This panel encourages papers on a wide range of topics: redefinitons of gender and digital citizenship, the role of new communication technology and women's movements in democratic change, feminism and open source movement, ict and feminist education, civil liberties and freedom on the net and IRL. Papers exploring new trends as well as papers that reflect on historical comparisons are welcome. For more info contact gender2006 at uni.lodz.pl, for submitting abstracts go to www.gender2006.pl
