2005. május 10-12 között a Szociológia Tanszék vendége lesz Eric Dunning, aki a hatvanas-nyolcvanas években Norbert Eliasnak, a huszadik századi szociológia egyik kiemelkedő alakjának legközelebbi munkatársa volt. Május 10-én és 11-én a 123.1-es teremben szemináriumot tart 17-19 óra között "Elias and the Figurational Sociology of Sport and Leisure" címmel. Május 12-én, csütörtökön, ugyancsak 17 órakor az egyetem 297-es termében "Elias and Modern Sociology" címmel tart előadást.

Professor Eric Dunning is a pioneer of the Sociology of Sport and the founder, with Patrick Murphy, of the Sir Norman Chester Centre for Football Research. He continues to enjoy a deserved international reputation. He is the author of numerous books and articles on sport and the figurational sociology of Norbert Elias. Although now officially retired, Professor Dunning remains an Emeritus Professor of the University of Leicester and is still closely involved in its work. He is also visiting Professor in Sociology at University College Dublin. His interests are primarily threefold and inter-related:
1. sociological theory, especially the functional sociology and theory of civilizing processes of Norbert Elias and its place within the wider field of classical and modern sociology;
2. the sociology of sport and leisure;
3. problems of violence and civilization, especially sports-related violence, including football hooliganism, and the use of Elias's theory in understanding the Holocaust and genocide more generally.
