2 Research Associates in Women’s Studies (REF: A153) 
48 months 
salary £21,010 
start date: November 1st 2003 
2 full-time research associates are required for the ‘Integrating
Diversity: 
Gender, Race and Leadership’ Project, to be housed in the Institute
for Women’s 
Studies at Lancaster University and supervised by Sara Ahmed. The
project is 
one of a number funded by the DFES as part of the Centre for Excellence
in 
Leadership (CEL). You will have completed or be nearly completed a PhD
in the 
Social Sciences and have a good knowledge of feminist theory and
critical race 
studies. You will be required to engage in qualitative research,
including 
interviews and focus groups, examining the effects of diversity policies
on 
minority staff in the FE and HE sectors. You will also be required to
liase 
with other projects in CEL, and with other teams working on diversity
within 
the sector. Candidates with backgrounds in Women’s Studies/Gender
Studies, 
or Race/Ethnicity Studies are strongly encouraged to apply. Knowledge of
the 
FE and/or HE sectors would be an advantage. 
Closing date for applications is October 2nd 2004. Interviews will take
place 
on October 10th.
