YOUNG WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP TRAINING - SUMMER COURSE
CALLED TO COMPASSION, FREEDOM AND JUSTICE - Young women shaping the future
of Europe
August 22 - September 1, 2002
Celakovice, Czech Republic

INVITATION and INTRODUCTION:
The 6th Assembly of the Ecumenical Forum of European Christian Women (EFECW)
Called to Compassion and Freedom -
Christian women shaping the future of Europe, will take place from August
25 - September 1, 2002, in Celakovice, Czech
Republic. It will bring together over 200 women from over 40 European
countries.

During the Assembly, the EFECW will also celebrate its 20th anniversary. As
part of the commemorations, the first
EFECW Young Women's Leadership Training -Summer Course is being launched.
The main aims of the course are to bring
forward the unique contribution of ecumenically involved young women, to
continue to build ecumenical awareness of
women's issues between generations and to enable more young women to
experience the challenges and joys of the
European women's ecumenical movement.

The Assembly will execute the normal business as well, will be a very
important process and time for consolidation and
reflection, as well as looking towards the future.

Out of this, new strategies will be developed which aim to improve the
participation of women in Church and Society,
ensuring a deeper quality of their lives. You are invited to apply for one
of the 24 places in the Summer Course, which
will take place from August 22 - September 1, 2002 and will run conjunction
with the Assembly. Applicants will need to be
available for the entire duration of the course, be prepared for the
challenging work of co-managing the organisation of
the Assembly, be open and flexible willing to try new ways and be open to
the intensity of living in community with over
200 women. The Summer Course is a dynamic interactive and intensive
"hands-on" ecumenical creation/formation
experience. The Summer Course is organised by the EFECW, in cooperation with
the YWCA - CR and the Ecumenical
Network for Youth Action (ENYA).

PROFILE of PARTICIPANTS:
The Summer Course will bring together a very diverse group of key
female multipliers (aged 18-30/32) who are
actively involved in the national member organisations of the EFECW, the
Church or related organisations.

Those selected will bring with them at least 2 years experience in one or
more of the following fields: women's work,
women's issues, worship and liturgical life, youth work, gender issues,
theological reflection, and diaconial work.

Applicants need to have strong verbal/ written communication skills in
English and at least one other EFECW language
(French / German) or Eastern and Central European language (preferably
Russian or Czech/ Slovak). As part of the
integral process of the whole programme, it is foreseen that the skills,
experience, knowledge and contacts gained
through the Summer Course, will be further shared and passed onto others
within the applicant's local and/or national
organisations and projects.

The ability to work well in teams, the willingness to train and work long
hours, possessing a non confrontational style of
resolving conflict and differences, being genuinely open to others and their
culture & traditions. and a good sense of
humour would all be valuable assets for any candidate participating in the
event.

TRAVEL/PARTICIPATION COSTS:
The Summer Course is supported by Partner Donor Agencies through the
fundraising efforts of the organisers. The
Participation Fee is CHF 100.00 (~ ?70,00 / USD $60.00/ KC 2,200).
Participants are also expected to contribute a
minimum of 20% towards their travel expenses. There are a limited number
of scholarships available up to 80% of the
participation fee and travel expenses (by the cheapest and reasonable
means), which need to be requested for, at the
same time as sending in the application form. Contributions will be
deducted from the reimbursement of the travel
expenses and paid during the Assembly.

PROGRAMME TRAINING CONTENT:
The programme is designed to develop ecumenical leadership skills among 24
young women and to encourage young women's
initiatives and networking. There will be three phases in the training
programme. The first phase will be orientated
towards analysing the realities of the situation of young women in the
different regions. The second phase will focus on
training skills development and the third phase will be the on-hands team
experience in the following various Teams
during the Assembly and the evaluation of the whole programme.
