With the financial assistance of the Institute "Open Society" (Russia)
and HESP
from July 23 till August 12, 2001 organize Summer School in Pljos (Ivanovo
region)
"GENDER PEDAGOGICS AND GENDER EDUCATION IN THE POST-SOVIET SPACE: PROSPECTS
OF DEVELOPMENT"
Summer school is directed on introduction and perfection of a technique of
teaching gender courses in a higher school. It is focused on the teachers of
high schools, both having some experience of their teaching, and making
first steps in this direction. The summer school is designed for 40
participants from Russia, NIS, Mongolia and countries of East Europe. They
will be selected according to the results of open contest. An international
command of the teachers from the universities of Ivanovo, Yaroslavl, Moscow,
Samara, Tver, Toronto (Canada), Oulu (Finland), Georgetown (USA) was
composed. At summer school it is supposed to discuss and to develop
recommendations for the solution of the problems in teaching gender courses
and to generalize of the best practices of teaching gender courses and
organization of gender education both at Russian, and at foreign
universities. Summer school will be located in a comfortable tourist inn on
the bank of the Volga River. Languages: Russian and English. The Summer
School Budget covers entirely the accommodation and food expenses as well as
a part of the travel expenses (the sum of reimbursements of travel expenses
will depend from the cost of the ticket, but participants have to find the
cheapest variant of travelling to summer school).
Main courses:
1. History of women's education in Russia and abroad
2. Methodology and psychology of teaching gender courses .
3. Gender and women's studies: Western experience.
4. Integration of gender problems in the humanitarian disciplines.
At the end of training every participant must present and defend essay or
original programme of educational course. It is recommended to bring
preparatory materials in order to have enough leisure time, because
programme of the School envisages several excursions to the towns of the
Russian "Gold Ring" (Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Suzdal). The best essays and
programmes will be included in the manual, which will be published and
distributed among universities, and placed in the web-site of the Summer
School.
To take part in the School it is necessary to send by post or e-mail
application form (it is enclosed), CV, list of publications, letter of
recommendation from the place of work and statement of purpose with the
detailed plan (one page).
