Dear Colleague,

As you may already have seen from a job advertisement,
the Women's Studies Centre at the University of
Manchester is expanding and will be making a
senior appointment in Women's Studies, preferably of
someone at SL/Reader level to act as Director of Women's
Studies. Next year, this will be followed by the post that Vicki
Robinson currently occupies on a three year contract being
advertised as a permanent position.

We would be grateful if you could bring the post that has
been advertised to the attention of anyone you think might
be interested. The Women's Studies Centre here is
flourishing, MA and PhD numbers are expanding, and
the job advertised is an interesting one based in a Centre
which is very research-oriented. The Centre itself is based
in one of the top research departments in UK sociology.

Attached to this email you will find two files. One contains
some detailed information about the organisation of
Women's Studies. The other contains the job details as
advertised by the University. The closing date for
applications is 20th April 2001.

Can you please note that, as the Women's Studies Centre
is a part of 'greater Sociology', the appropriate person to
contact to talk the job over is Mike Savage, the Head of
