I would like to bring to your attention the focus on Economic Sociology
at
Rutgers University. This is a remarkably strong program, with 20 full
time
faculty members, particularly active in organizations, the sociology of
work and gender, inequality and macrostructures of all kinds. Rutgers
has
a special interest in comparative-historical social sciences and the
scholarly questions raised by processes of transformation in the EU and
central and eastern Europe. The department is open for applicants
regardless
of ethnic, racial, gender or citizenship background. We particularly
welcome
applications from abroad. Applications are read very carefully;
admission is
competitive, based primarily on our perception of the applicant's
talent,
promise as a successful sociologist, preparation, and match with the
department's strengths.
Please pass the word on to your gifted students if they have such
interests.
To learn more, they should point their browser to:
http://sociology.rutgers.edu/Economic/ecosoc.htm
-- for more on the economic sociology focus, to
http://sociology.rutgers.edu/Graduate/graduate_main.htm
-- for information about the graduate program in sociology at
Rutgers, and/or to
http://sociology.rutgers.edu
-- to learn more about the department as a whole.
Other exciting strengths include culture/cognition, gender, and medical
sociology. I'm happy to answer any direct queries on issues not
addressed on
the websites.
