Interdisciplinary Committee

Dear Colleagues!

We want to thank the G&CP for the initial support and coordinating role it
has provided to the Women's Oral History Conference (November 3-5,
Budapest). This meeting was a powerful event with the participation of
highly accredited professionals, advocates and students from several
countries who brought the light and encouragement to many pioneering
initiatives and projects.

The G&CP has been instrumental for the creation and development of
gender/women's studies movement in the region, therefore it is an
acknowledged integral part of this movement. The G&CP has been the center
and the forum for the scholars in gender/women's studies in the region, and
we are all committed to its continuous empowering impact.

It is unfortunate that now many gender/women's studies scholars/activists
had to reject invitations to teach in the program or to cooperate with it.
The reason for this was that the resolution of the controversy which took
place, did not consider their voices and failed to bring satisfactory
results for all. As a community from here, we strongly believe that the
real (and not just institutional) resolution of this situation is only
possible if fairness becomes an essential part of the closure of the past.

Being a part of gender/women's studies from the region we would like to
invite you to work together, including key centers in our field, to find a
sustainable solution, which will restore the dignity of all the sides
involved, and enable everyone to continue their important work, roles and
missions. We suggest to convene a special meeting, which could be jointly
co-sponsored by different entities who had been active in the
gender/women's studies movement in the region, Network Women's Program and
the Gender and Culture Program. Our hope is that our joint effort will
create trustful, solid grounds for future cooperation.

We are looking forward to learning about your willingness to take part in
such a meeting or to suggest an alternative solution.
