AFR is the first women democratic organization of Romania and is a
non-governmental organization whose purpose is to raise awareness and
promote Romanian women to asses their own abilities and take
responsibilities in creating positive changes in their life and civil
society. In the ten years of its existence, AFR has undertaken training,
seminars and advocacy campaigns in the fields of civic education, equal
opportunities, health, promoting peace and non-violence.

In the frame of manifestations all around the world within "The Decade
for Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World"
they are planning to organize the project Harmony in Balkans to which
they invite you to take part as partner. This project will consist of a
training of two days (5-6 May 2001) and a cultural event (7 May 2001),
in Targoviste city, Romania.

The topics of the training are:  Respect the life and dignity of every
person without discrimination or prejudice; Practice active non-violence
and reject violence in all its forms; Defend freedom of expression and
cultural diversity.

The object of this project is to realize a better knowledge between
countries from Balkans area, through art and culture.  They propose that
the delegation of each participant country to consist of three persons:
1 leader/representative of a non-governmental organization and 2 young
artists.

Why Romania? Romania is a stabile country in this Balkan conglomerate,
that's why the organization of this cultural exchange has a symbol value
and constitutes a start point for a tighter collaboration between
neighboring countries, and it is also a step for our integration in
European Union.
