Joan W. Scott (Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton)
"Fantasy Echo: Historical Traditions of International Feminism"
JOAN W. SCOTT is Professor of Social Science at the Institute for
Advanced Study, Princeton. Her most recent books are "Gender and the
Politics of History" and "Only Paradoxes to Offer: French Feminists
and the Rights of Men." She has also edited "Feminists Theorize the
Political" (with Judith Butler) and "Feminism and History." In this
lecture Professor Scott examines the history of international feminism
(at the beginning and end of the twentieth century) through the
psychoanalytic lens of fantasy. __________
