Center for Gender Studies at European Humanities University (Minsk),
The Institutum Studiorum Humanitatis (Ljubjana), The Program on Gender
and Culture, CEU, Budapest
 invite papers for the conference:
Writing Women`s History and History of Gender in
Countries in Transition
in order to promote teaching and research on history of women and
gender in countries in transition. The conference will be held in
Minsk (Belarus) September, 30 -October, 2, 1999. The working languages
are English, Russian  and Belarusian. Proposal are invited on the
following themes: 1. Schools of thought. Rethinking history 2. History
of Marginalities in History. 3. The Politics of Cultural Memory. Myth
and Memory in the Construction of Community. Gender, Commemorating
Monuments and History (Representing history through monuments and
museums). 4. War, resistance in East Central Europe 5. Feminism before
Feminisms (history of women's movements) 6. Family and Religion.
Comparative Marriage Patterns in European Countries. Family and
Demographic History (inheritance, marriage, sex, family, love and
illicit love, household and gender, and alternative history of love
and marriage, law and love). 7. Body, beauty, ideal, phantasm 8.
Medicine and Health 9. Migration . Gender Relationships in Rural and
Urban Communities 10. Juridical and Criminal Institutions 11. The
Growth of Consumer Society and Gender.  The Patterns of Masculinity.

Proposals for single presentations or panels are welcome. Deadline is
March 30, 1999. Please, send half a page abstract, contact information
and a very brief resume ( with main publications) to the  conference
