to the International Summer School

ROLE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES IN RESTORATION OF BOSNIAN OPEN SOCIETY


Time: July 4-24, 1999
Place: Konjic - Sarajevo - Boracko jezero


It is the pleasure to notify you that the Selection Committee of the
OPEN SOCIETY INSTITUTE, the Higher Education Support Program (HESP),
Budapest, Hungary has decided to support our Summer School  Role of
Social Sciences in Restoration of Bosnian Open Society  among 82
received proposals.

I hereby announce the first call of inquiry to younger university
teachers (junior faculty) interested in taking part; researchers and
graduate students are eligible, however, must also be involved in
university teaching; free-paying Western participants may participate
in limited number. Participants are supposed to be familiar to the
issue and willing to continue or begin their research on it.

Foreseen structure of the School participants is as follows:
1. Bosnia-Herzegovina 15 partcipants
(University of Sarajevo - 7 participants; University of Banja Luka - 4
participants; University of Mostar - 2 participants; University of
Tuzla - 2 participants) 2. Croatia - 2 participants 3. Serbia - 2
participants 4. Slovenia - 1 participant 5. Macedonia - 1 participant
6 Montenegro - 1 participant 7. Hungary - 1 participant 8. Poland - 1
participant 9. Czech Republic - 1 participant 10. Western countries -
up to 10 participants

Participants from other Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and
the Transcaucaus countries as well as other parts of the World are
also invited to the participant selection process. Organizer will
cover travel and accomodation expenditures for the participants from
Central and Eastern European countries.

School consists of two courses:
1.  Democracy and Reconstruction of Bosnian Open Society
Resource person: Prof. Dzemal Sokolovic, Institute for Strengthening
Democracy in Bosnia, Konjic, Bosnia-Herzegovina 2.  Bosnian Heritage -
Preconditions for the Restoration of Bosnian Open Society Resource
person: Prof. Svein Monnesland, University of Oslo, Norway

Candidates are requested to submit a letter of inquiry as soon as
possible to the director of the School.
