Research opportunity: School of Sociology and Social Policy,
Roehampton Institute London.

Roehampton Institute is hoping to begin recruitment in
mid-November for a senior researcher to work on a European project on
women and the sciences. Starting in January 1999, the project
involves mapping the availability of quantitative and qualitative
data on women and the sciences in all European Union member states.
S/he will spend a considerable
amount of time making face-to-face contact with a range of data
collection bodies, such as government statistics agencies, in each
member state.  No data analysis will be carried out for this project,
although it is possible that a further project may do this, subject
to funding.   The salary will be at a level which takes account of
the need for the researcher to be away from home for considerable
amounts of time.  The qualities being looked for include: a sound
knowledge of social science data collection methods; linguistic
abilities (English plus technical fluency in at least one other
language); excellent communication skills; reliability; attention to
detail; sound knowledge of word-processing and electronic means of
communication; interest in the issue of women and the sciences;
possession of Master's or PhD or considerable working experience in a
