Dear JATE Colleagues,

I am a Civic Education Lecturer in the Education Department at JATE and
have received information about a series of seminars in Eastern and
Central Europe which will be of interest to you and your students. They
are being sponsored by the Center for Social Science Research (CSSR) in
Timisoara, Romania. Two of these seminars will be presented in Szeged by
Professor Judith Dushku, political science professor at Suffolk University
in Boston, Massachusetts. On June 6 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. her topic will be
"Recent Criticism of Bretton Woods Institutions and Their Impact on East
Europe." On June 7, the seminar will be held from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
focusing on the topic of "Political Response to SAPs (Structural
Adjustment Programs) and Neo-Liberalist Policies in Different Parts of the
World." At present, the seminars are scheduled for the Auditorium
Maximum, however, that is much larger than needed. Do you have any other
ideas for a smaller seminar room? If so, please contact Gulyas Erika, the
program coordinator for CSSR. She is organizing these events and will
also be able to answer any questions you may have about the seminars. Her
e-mail address is <eri at ccsspeu.sorostm.ro>. The targeted audience is
teachers, students and non-governmental organization representatives.

Thank you for your assistance in organizing these seminars. They offer
participants a unique opportunity to explore topics of interest in the
region.
