Found this post on the beijing-conf mailing list today....For me, this
falls within the "a good action idea to be shared" category! I especially
was interested in the fact that they are focusing their discussions on the
Beijing Platform for Action. Cheers,Catherine

--------------------------------------------------------------------- We
are a dutch womens organisation (EBG) and a centre for development
education (COS) both based in the province of Gelderland in the
Netherlands. We have been both involved in organising a platform of womens
organisations in our province preparing and discussing the WCW conference
in Beijing. More then one thousand women took part in the preparatory
discussions last year. Many local and rural women organisations have taken
part in this platform (1).

We are now urgently looking for partners in the South and Eastern Europe
willing to communicate with local dutch women organisations over the period
of one year starting this May 1997. We would like to be able to communicate
via E-mail and in english, but we could arrange translation into and from
spanish.

The idea is that each of ten provincial dutch women organisations will be
using their own E-mail address to communicate with another women
organisation who is also involved somehow in the Platform for Action or
other results of the WCW Conference in Beijing. So the communication will
take place between these pairs of organisations for the whole year. We hope
there will be at least one E-mail message exchange each month.

We hope the project will enable women organisations, in using electronic
networking tools, to discuss and exchange relevant aspects of the Plaform
for Action and form a global bridge between women.

In the Netherlands our organisations are part of an initiative to use the
Internet as networking tool for women organisations. We have our own Web
server and Internet Domain (2) and we collaborate closely with the dutch
APC member network Antenna (3). They prepared for us this list of adresses,
they are the host and will facilitate the dutch organisations in this
project.

The project we hope to formulate needs to be ready before the end of March
(4) to be able to start in May. We hope you can respond as soon as
possible, so we can work out the details of the project (5). Please reply
to the E-mail address: ebg-cos at antenna.apc.org so both of our organisations
will receive a copy of your message.

In case your own organisation has no time or capacity to join this project
please forward this message to other women organisation who might be
interested and capable to join.

We anxiously look forward for your reaction.

Best regards,

Nirupa Shantiprekash, EBG (6)
(on behalf of EBG-COS project team)

P.S. So far already three organisations (One in Croatia, one in Senegal and
one in Nicaragua) have responded positively and will join the project. On
the dutch side 10 organisations have already comitted themselves: These
women are based at:

- WILPF Netherlands (Womens Intl. League for Peace and Freedom) -
ThirdWorld Shop Oosterbeek
- Milieukwartet Foundation (environment) - Spectrum (Welfare)
- Union of Catholic Farmers women
- International Womens Centre
- Bureau Pisanu
- Third World Centre of the Catholic University of Nijmegen - Tchambuli
(gender issues)
