<p>Dear colleagues,</p>
<p>A would like to enquire about unusual ornaments made of antler.
These elements appear on <b>late Roman sites in northern France</b>
(attached are photos of an example form The Authie estuary on the
shore of the channel. In some instances, we find the copper alloy
that was used to keep together the successive <b>bracelet/Necklace
elements</b>. <br>
</p>
<p>We matched these finds with productions studied and published by
Sabine Deschler-Erb 2005 from an antler <u>workshop in Eastern
Switzerland</u> (Figure 8&9 p.210).</p>

It seems that these objects travel with people from the eastern
Europe and are associated with evidence of the presence of
Germanic populations in late-Roman France (Sr isotopes on Human
bones + imported artefacts).</p>
<p>My request is:</p>
<p>- to share your experience of this type of objects.</p>
<p>- to know of any other bone/antler elements that could have
traveled westwards in late Roman period and in particular <font size="5"><u><b>penknives </b></u></font>(folding knives with
solid bone/antler handles)<br>

<p>- access a pdf version of the paper of Biro 2000 of a larger
scale workshop that has produced this type of elements cited by
Sabine Deschler Erb 2005<br>
