They appear quite frequent in infant or female graves in Roman period, usually in the Late-Republic-Early Imperial Age, and they are found many times associated with other amulets of various raw material as part of crepundia (apotropaic necklaces worn by little children to avert the look of the Evil Eye). I have also found something similar in Aquincum in a cremation grave.
