The picture is of a transverse section through a strip of long bone shaft. There is fibro-lamellar bone at the top and a very distinct band of secondary osteon structures below this. Finally there are a few layers of new bone formation at the endosteal surface, at the bottom of the section.<br /> I think what is confusing people is the very marked appearance of these features.
